The website AppShopper.com has just released their very own iPhone app. A great move on their part, I’m definitely a fan. If you’ve never used AppShopper before their site will help you find apps that have been updated, price changed, etc… It’s a great community to find new apps, it’s also a great place for smaller developers to get some exposure. Just be sure to check out the site to see for yourself what I’m talking about.

I use the site to often find apps I wouldn’t find either through word of mouth or through the iTunes app store. They highlight awesome sales that usually only last for a day, and highlight good deals. For instance I caught 1Password Pro for free through this site! I love their software. Anyway let’s talk about the app itself, because it’s really well made.

Here is the icon, down in the lower right corner. Beauty.

Once you’ve popped into the app here is the home screen showing you what is the most popular at the moment on the site. There are a lot of categories and options to choose as to what you’ll see on the home page. The default of course is to show everything.

Some options that I thought were cool enough to talk about were the option to choose what device you want to find apps for. iPhone, iPad, and Universal. Then you can select apps via the cost, etc…

Another cool part that takes the app even further is signing up for a user account. If you use your account you can have things like your apps, where you can keep track of the apps you have. There is also a wish list feature to further watch apps for changes and sales, etc… Super cool.

Like I said if you are really into seeking out apps then this is a great app itself to help you do that. It’s fun, well made and well thought out! Except for that iAd at the top about guys meeting guys… I’m excited to use the iPhone app more as it eliminates the middle step of downloading it to your iTunes then syncing it up to your computer. Now I can just get the app straight on my iPhone if I find something cool. As always let me know what you think and thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. I’ll come out right now and say that I’m much more in favor of Apple’s take on it, but in all fairness I’ve never used either of them. I have tried to use OpenFeint on a few occasions and sign up through a few great apps I have, but it never worked for me. Pocket God and Mini Squadron are two fantastic games that use OpenFeint to keep track of scores, achievements, etc… This is what Apple is also setting out to do with Game Center.

What do these apps do anyway? They both are akin to Xbox Live and it’s social features. You can add friends, show what you’ve played, unlocked achieved items, etc… Just shows what you’ve been doing and what you’ve been playing. My roommate has Xbox Live and it’s really fun to see when friends come online and play with them. You can invite people to play the same game as you through these game centers and more. Like I said, instead of playing games by yourself and then having to tell your friends about how awesome you are at some game they can now look at the proof with their own two eyes.

So will I be using Game Center anytime soon, or will I try to sign up on OpenFeint again? I mentioned earlier that I will give Game Center a try, and as everything else that Apple does seems very well put together and thought out. I always appreciate that, from what I can tell OpenFeint never really caught on. I think since Game Center is much more solid that it at least has a chance.

What do you think? OpenFeint all the way or are you willing to start using Game Center? Voice an opinion by leaving a comment. You’ll help out me since I’m so clueless about this kind of thing on the iPhone. How about that iPhone 4? We’ll talk more about that later. First let’s mention the online Apple store. Apple finally got around to making an app for the iPhone where you can shop for all Apple products online. All is well in the app, it’s easy to use and is your staple online store app. Has all their products, categories, cart, store finder, etc… I always wonder if anyone out there will be ordering more Apple products from their iDevices more so than they would just walking into the stores, but I guess Apple saw a need for this app so let’s check it out.

Below is the app icon, top tow third icon. It is similar and not similar to their other two store apps. It has the sunburst and white icon but not as much glam and glitter. Also take note that this app isn’t ready for the iPhone 4’s screen. Isn’t that weird that Apple made this app and knew what was coming with the iPhone 4, hopefully they did… and the app isn’t retina ready! A major setback for me since along with this app Apple has a remote app that isn’t updated for the iPhone 4. Apple’s own apps aren’t all ready, wonder what the deal is.

So here below is the first thing you’ll see upon opening the app. Their newest and hottest products on the home page ready to buy, so get your credit cards ready shoppers! It’s very similar to their normal site as the adverts are similar, colors are similar. The whole feel is similar, so props to them on that.

If you go under the products you’ll see again their new and very hot items. It’s no surprise that the iPhone 4 and the iPad are at the top.

The next feature is one thing I really quite like in the app. Although not ground breaking it’s nice to see them promote their retail stores a little more with this feature. Their retail stores are a lot of fun to shop at, and if I am in the mood for a new Apple product I’d much rather go into the store and pick it up. Luckily with one only around 27 miles away, I can do that pretty easily.

Besides these 3 sections of the app you have a search function and then you can check out your cart and buy some expensive gadgets! The app is pretty standard, but it does it’s job. Like I said, if I wasn’t living near an Apple store I would definitely consider buying through this app. They’ve just done such a good job with their retail stores that I’d rather go in and purchase. Now if Apple could just get this app ready for the iPhone 4’s retina display everything would be peachy for me. Now it’s time for you to voice your opinion, would you use this app to buy products, surf for stuff, find a store? Or if you are like me let me know! Thanks for reading.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. Too bad not everyone can pre-order theirs that easily. It appears a lot of servers are down today. Apple’s are struggling, AT&T’s were, perhaps even Radio Shack, & Best Buy had hiccups. People are apparently going nuts for the iPhone 4. I will be picking mine up in store, so I won’t be pre-ordering. I also have to sell my 3GS first, .

I started feeling bad for all of the people that are constantly hitting refresh and flipping out as they can’t get their pre-order in, so I though hmm what would be some good things to distract you while you wait to get through? Here they are in no order, give one a shot before you get back on apple.com and see if you can’t wait out this massive meltdown.

3 – Clean Your Current iPhone

I know this may not apply to everyone, but if you are selling your current iPhone as I am, give it some TLC. It will help you pass the time and perhaps make that bond with your current iPhone that much stronger. The 3GS has been a great phone for me, I’ll be sure to do background checks on whoever she ends up with next…

Start by taking off any case you have on it and wiping the dust from the cracks and ports. Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen and finish it up..

2 – Take A Walk To Ease The Tension

I know some of you are wearing out your magic mouses going click crazy to see if the server lets your order through yet. Or worse you are venting away in some forum on macrumors.com about how stupid Apple & AT&T are for not seeing this coming, is that irony or not? You want Apple’s new product on AT&T’s service yet hate both the companies…nah not ironic, just chill out for a little bit. Get up from the computer and go take a few laps around the block or the nearest nature trail. It’ll make you forget about those stupid companies and that stupid iPhone 4 that you can’t have, haha.

1 – Go Back To Work

I’m sure a good majority of people are at work secretly trying to pre-order, or maybe you’ve even called in sick today along with everyone else (even the boss) to order the iPhone 4. Sadly you’ve found dead servers everywhere you go and you can’t leave your cubicle until your next 15 minute break to run to the nearest Apple or AT&T store to try and get your pre-order in before they are all gone. Again, just chill out and go back to work. You will be doing everyone across the nation like you a big favor by getting off their servers and letting some other paranoid person order theirs. Then you can order yours in peace knowing you made the world a better place.

Seriously, if your pre-order isn’t making it through just go back to your normal day and try later. The reason no one can get through ever, is because everyone keeps trying haha. You’ll get the precious iPhone 4 some way or another iKnow, let’s just take our time ok? Remember deep breaths, deep breaths.

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. What do you mean hands off? Well sadly I am not a mainstream, fancy pants, blogger and can’t work my way into WWDC. This is where after the Keynote lots of high profile bloggers could get their hands on the iPhone 4 and see what it’s all about. Instead I get to look at their pictures and say ooo ahh until the day the iPhone comes out and I rush to get it ASAP. See I’m just a normal person like you! Haha, anyway thanks to Engadget for letting me poach their pictures so I could help illustrate my favorite parts of the new iPhone 4. That’s what we are going to do today, the last post talked about just the new hardware so now we’ll talk about what I’m really excited about on the new iPhone. Let’s get started shall we?

First off I really love the new design, it takes it back a little bit to the original iPhone’s design. Brushed aluminum look, flat back, etc… This new design looks great and from what people say feels great too. I’m very excited to see what Incase comes out with for this thing! It’s also THINNER, you’ll see just how much in the pictures below…

Secondly, I love taking pictures with my iPhone. I also LOVE using my 7D, but there is something different about just being able to pull out your phone and take some pretty decent pictures too. Not to mention the whole screen of image editing apps I have. This camera on the new iPhone 4 is going to be awesome to use, plus it has better low light performance and a flash! I’m very excited to mess with it.

Let’s not forget it also shoots in full 720p! I study video production at school and am definitely going to start putting together iPhone videos. It’s a good marketing ploy and also sounds like a ton of fun. Don’t worry my 7D will get plenty of work in, the iPhone will just move up to being used more for fun video now. I’m so excited!

I can’t wait to see the new screen in person. I’m already getting the chills thinking about going and getting the new iPhone. It’s almost become like a Christmas morning feeling for me. I know every year when the time is coming for the new iPhone and I wait very anxiously for Santa Steve to deliver, and I think he did this time around. I’m sure by now you’ve read everything about the screen, it’s going to be great to use it especially once developers update their art. It’ll be interesting to see where other phone manufacturers go now…

Here are the pics where you can see how thin it is compared to a 3GS. I’m very surprised Apple pulled this off. I thought the iPhone was pretty thin as it is and was just fine if it never got thinner. The engineers though didn’t think so, they went as far as putting the antennas in the actual steel bezel to make room on the inside of the phone for a bigger battery and to make it thinner. That’s wild stuff IMHO. Props to them.

Again, more pictures comparing the old vs new, I think the new one looks awesome.

So hardware aside but running in combination with iOS4 it’s really what makes the iPhone special. Apple almost makes everything that goes into the dang phone so it’s responsive, has better battery life, speedy, etc…

There are two things I’m really looking forward to with the new OS. They’ve finally opened up and gave us a form of multitasking. iPhone users everywhere have been asking for this for almost two years. Their implementation may not be TRUE multitasking, but their background API’s are genius and I will definitely use it to my advantage. I also assume they’ll keep adding to these background API’s allowing more and more true application running in the background. As long as it doesn’t hurt my phones performance I’ll stand by their multitasking.

Lastly on the iOS4, I’m really wanting to use the new app folders. Like I mentioned earlier I have a whole screen full of camera apps, I can now pile all of those apps into one icon and put them anywhere. I’ll soon become a folder whore, and I’m not ashamed.

Take the new design, faster chip, new camera, awesome iOS4, this is going to be a great update to the iPhone. Especially if you already love your current one. This is much better than the iPhone 3G to 3GS update. What are you most excited about, leave a comment and let me know!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. Not that most of you didn’t already know, it’s been TWO DAYS since it’s unveiling and I’ve yet to talk about my personal feelings for it. Before we get to that post though I should mention all of the specs, or at least the important ones, just so you know how great this new iPhone is. Ready?

Obviously it comes with a fantastic new design, I couldn’t swoon about this design enough. All of your ears would bleed with pain and numbness. The new design is GREAT. It has a very strong glass front and back, and the sides are made out of a stainless steel that also serves a function of the antennas for the device. One of my favorite parts. Here is what the white iPhone looks like…

So sexy, don’t you think? Most of the buttons on the actual phone are the same excluding the volume rocker. The rocker has disappeared and we now have two separate buttons for turning the volume up and down. A welcome change to me.

Also if you notice hardware wise the iPhone 4 has a front facing camera for a feature called FaceTime, which is VIDEO CHATTING on the iPhone. Right now the video chatting only works over Wifi and supposedly with other iPhone 4’s, but Apple says they are working on that.

Next up is their new display that they call the Retina Display. This display has been getting great reviews from people who got to spend a little hands on time with the iPhone 4. It effectively quadruples the amount of pixels on the display I believe, and it just looks awesome. It also has the IPS technology from the iPad so that colors look better and the viewing angles are quite improved. I don’t think any pictures do the display justice, but here is a picture of it anyway…

Of course there are also some great camera improvements, the number one for me is that it records 720p HD video. Not to mention the camera has a new sensor and is bumped up to 5 megapixels. Trust me, if Apple isn’t lying on their website, the pictures from iPhone 4 look really really good. It also has an LED flash, don’t forget about that! With those camera improvements they also developed a mobile version of iMovie! How crazy is that, I think I had talked about that awhile ago and turns out I was right about something!

Inside the phone they’ve beefed up the battery, and to little surprise are using their own custom made silicon. It’s their A4 chip from the iPad, but made a little smaller so the battery in the iPhone 4 could be beefed up. I believe everything else is standard, they will come in the same capacity as the iPhone 3GS which is kind of a bummer, but I will not complain.

Well what else can I say about the iPhone 4 hardware wise? The software is a whole other topic that has been covered before here. Tomorrow we’ll talk about my personal opinions of it all, even though you can tell I’m excited. So what do you all think about the hardware improvements, do you like the new design? Voice your thoughts by leaving a comment!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. It’s that time of the summer again, where all us geeks venture out into the sun only for a bit to fine our way into the moscone center in San Fran. This is where Apple has their annual WORLD WIDE DEVELOPER CONFERENCE, where in the past they’ve really talked about OS X. That has diminished though, especially after the theme this year is called… “The center of the app universe.” Looks like it’s going to be all about apps this year!

Does this mean WWDC has become all about the iPhone? Will we ever see a glimpse of 10.7? Please Apple quit pushing OS X, at least the desktop version, into the background. I know that the iPhone and iPad are cash cows right now, but they aren’t anything without your computers. Just a small cry from me to you Steve. Steve’s keynote kicks off in roughly two hours and we’re definitely expecting big things. Steve Jobs has promised that we won’t be disappointed but I have a little feeling we will all be slightly disappointed. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Here are 5 things I want to see from WWDC

5 – iPhone 4G

We obviously have seen one of the leaked prototypes, and I am really hoping that that is the one they went with because it looks great. Among many new features I’m hoping we do get the better camera on the back and front facing camera as well as lower prices for it all!

4 – New Mac Minis

Apparently as the rumor goes, these new Mac Minis will be home theater ready. I’d love to see them head this route with a special build of the Mini for home theaters. If they do, I’ll be getting one in the future!

3 – Verizon iPhone

Many of my friends want the iPhone, they are ready to pay Apple and Verizon to make that happen. The problem is Apple and Verizon and definitely AT&T aren’t ready to let that become a reality. I hope Jobs brings some good news if not today, then THIS YEAR about the iPhone spreading out to other carriers.

2 – New developer tools

Since this is the developers conference and it cost quite a bit to come to the thing I hope Apple takes real good care of their developers and gives them some great tools that makes app making even easier than before. Plus I want to hop on the train and start learning, make it easier for noobs to start coding!

1 – Sneak Peek at Mac OS X

We know Apple has to be working on 10.7, it’s shown up in many analytics of many websites. This is the best place at the moment to talk about the dang thing, so please let us know what you are working on in the next version of Mac OS X.

Sadly I think I already know that I won’t see anything about 10.7 or Verizon iPhones, but I still think we are in store for a great keynote and I’ll be watching to see what happens all week. WAAYY back in 2007 when the first iPhone came out you had to buy AT&T’s 20 dollar data plan. It was unlimited, you could never run out, but it was on the EDGE network… Those were some good days. Then came along the iPhone 3G, raising our data plans from $20 to $30 but they were still unlimited. iPhone 3GS came along and nothing changed, thank heavens the price didn’t go to $40 a month. Now something to explain quickly, when AT&T says unlimited they didn’t really mean unlimited of course. It’s rumored to be that the cap for unlimited data plans is at 5GB, so do keep that in mind as we go on.

As a side note, do you notice how much we get ripped off on text message plans. I pay $30 for unlimited data which is a lot more bandwidth excessive and on our family plan we also pay $30 for unlimited texting. Texting does not take the same amount of data no matter what! AT&T STOP RIPPING US OFF WITH TEXTING. That’s all I wanted to say as a side note…:)

Now just a week before Apple introduces the next iPhone AT&T has gone and restructured some of their data plans. Don’t worry though those who want to keep their current data plans, you won’t be forced into anything new that you don’t want. Here is the low down as I understand it;

WE HAVE TETHERING NOW, but only if you sign up for one of the new plans. First of the new plans is one for 200MB of data for $15 dollars, and if you go over it’s just another $15 for 200mb more. The plan you may really want to go for though if you are a heavy iPhone user is the 2GB a month plan that is $25 a month. Although not unlimited like the current plan if you check your usage you could be saving yourself $5 or more a month. If you go over your 2Gb plan it’s $10 for another 1GB for that month.

There are more details and questions that will surface later, but overall this is a good start to AT&T catering to iPhone users needs. some people can cut their data plan in half since they don’t use that much, others can save $5, while some of us can just stay on our $30 a month unlimited plan. I only wish there were more options to these data plans. Add in the “unlimited” plan still for $30 a month, and lower the cost of 200mb from $15 to $5 and add plans in between!

Like I said though this is a slow move in the right direction for a lot of people to save money and for a lot of stress to potentially be taken off of AT&T’s network for the time being. Also did I mention that iPhone users get tethering now? Well it’s only on the new plans and it costs an extra $20 a month with no increase in data, DUMB.

Voice your opinion with a comment and let us know what you think!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts. I actually know someone who took their iPhone with them on a ropes course and at the end on the way down she dropped her iPhone and it cracked. I also know an iPhone user who took their phone horseback riding and it was broken as well. I’m sure we all know these horror stories and wish we could do something to get our iPhones back in prisitin working order. Apparently coming June 6th, right before the new iPhone 4G comes out we will be able to! My first though was well would you look at that, AT&T has finally realized they could make some money off of offering a warranty for the iPhone. MILLIONS of people have the iPhone so why not create a warranty that offers more protection than the normal AppleCare?

I bet the iPhone is an expensive phone to replace but all this time AT&T has excluded the iPhone from any of it’s protection packages. Leaving all iPhone owners to deal with their broken iPhone and pay FULL price to get a new one. The day is no longer though, comprehensive coverage is now going to be available as I said with the new iPhone. I say it’s a bout time, and I also say it’s WAAYY TOO EXPENSIVE

Here are the supposed details on the plan…

Run by Asurion, the plan will cost $13.99/month and will be available through the App Store. The charges will be billed to the credit card on file with Apple. The deductibles range from $99 for an 8GB 3G to $199 for a 32GB 3GS. You must buy the plan within 30-days of upgrading/purchasing a new iPhone. This is why AT&T says their launching this service, “Lack of iPhone insurance is a leading source of iPhone related customer complaints.”

Now that is an additional $168 dollars a year, PLUS the deductible if you actually have to use it. Ouch says poor college students, especially ones who love to drop their phones. Actually OUCH says anyone who is prone to dropping their iPhone. Don’t fret though there have always been other options besides AT&T’s overpriced garbage, you knew there would be right?! A company called SquareTrade offers a great protection plan for your iPhone that is quite a bit cheaper. Check their plans out on their website, if purchased in advance you can get TWO YEARS of coverage for $144. Sounds real good to me!

All in all you need to look at both plans and figure out which one is more appropriate for you. Each plan has differences and it’s up to you to decide which one is the on you need. It’s good news AT&T finally offers protection and I’m sure a lot of people will purchase it without thinking twice. Now AT&T is making even more money from us iPhone suckers!

What do you think about protections plans for your iPhone, I’ve never had one but then again I’ve never broken an iPhone! Safari may get the ability to handle plugins. And now Steve Ballmer of all people will be at WWDC during the keynote?!@#

Wait what?! That monkey goon will be presenting during Steve Job’s keynote? I mean just take a second and look at this guys mug…THIS is the guy who is in charge of all of Microsoft after Bill Gates? What a weird and horrible choice…

In all seriousness Steve Ballmer does creep me out, and automatically fill me with rage just by looking at his face. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s just an idiot or it’s something about his face… Either way, the speculation is that if he is coming to present shortly during the keynote it obviously has something to do with the iPhone. Since this WWDC is all about apps, and seemingly hardly about OS X. I’m just slightly bitter about it. The internetz are guessing that this rumor means that the Windows operating system will finally see the light of day and get the ability to somehow develop native iPhone apps. Previously this was only possible using Apple’s Xcode tools which only ran on, yup you guessed it, OS X!

So is this rumor, and the possibility of it being true good news? Does Apple really want to open up app development to all of the weird and nerdy developers on Windows? Just think if the philosophy of Windows apps made it’s way onto the iPhone…… I’m shuddering in fear. This may be a good reason and example why Apple has to approve apps before they make them in the app store. They have to feel right for the iPhone and not disrupt what us users are used to. Especially when considering UI and functionality. Any app with a horrible UI automatically puts me off, so I hope these developers step it up with their UI’s if this is true.

Honestly though I’m all for bringing the tools to more people. All joking aside from how bad the Windows UI’s are and how nerdy their developers are, we’re all nerds, it’ll be great to give the chance to ANYONE with a computer to develop for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, etc… I’ll be very interested and watching to see if this rumor comes to fruition. Apple’s known for their elegant solutions and I think they’ll have to deliver on this one. Microsoft’s new phones have even better competition now if there are two mobile platforms to develop for on Windows. You can even consider 3 counting android. Interesting times these are.

Thoughts, opinions, rage? Express it all below by leaving a comment. What do you think about this rumor? Thanks for reading!

Apple iPhone News, Reviews, Hacks, and More Copyright 2008 iPhone Nuts.
